Facts about Health Insurance in Washington D.C.
- You can be turned down for Individual Health Insurance in
Washington, DC and Pregnancy can be determined a pre-existing
condition. Genetic information cannot.
- Self-employed people are not allowed to hold group health
insurance. In some cases professional associations may qualify,
but this requires approval through the District of Columbia
Department of Insurance.
- Help in DC is provided to low income individuals through Medicaid,
and there is a program called DC Healthy Families which provides
aid to low income families with free health insurance. Research

- Small businesses cannot be turned down by an insurance company.
