Chiropractic Health Coverage
The definition of chiropractic service is those services performed by Doctors of Chiropractic with degrees from accredited colleges with clinical and academic training. No drugs or surgery are part of chiropractic care, although there are procedures for diagnosis and therapy. Generally, some method of manipulation and adjustment of the spine is the first line of action, including ‘recoil thrust’ and ‘rotational thrust’. In combination with other therapies like hot or cold treatments, exercise therapy, and good nutrition, chiropractic care can be very beneficial.
Developed by Daniel David Palmer at the end of the 1800s, chiropractic care was based on healing by realigning the spine. Today, this is still what chiropractic treatment is based on.
Including Chiropractic Care with Your Health Insurance Plan
Chiropractic insurance, if included in your policy, will most likely be found in group health plans. Because there is an increase in alternative therapies in the United States today and because employees are asking for a wider variety of ‘natural’ treatment alternatives, employers of larger businesses are including chiropractic care benefits in their group insurance coverage.
Co-pays and deductibles are similar to the set-up of more traditional health services. Similarly, networks of providers and facilities are set up through the insurer with the same fee and treatment guidelines of other providers and facilities in the organization.
In some cases, however, chiropractic care is covered via a discount offered through an insurance company. In this case, the patient pays for treatment out of pocket with no reimbursement from the insurance company but at a lower rate thanks to their affiliation with the provider.
