For me this is simple, I'm a full time college student who can barley afford bills and groceries. Some weeks its a choice between lunch at work or dinner when I get home, a doctor visit, or scan, or surgery , or any other kind of doctor visit is out of the question. I hear these people complaining about having to wait a few extra weeks for things, well hell try waiting 7 years to see a doctor due to NO MONEY , NO INSURANCE because W Mart doesn't let employees work over 39 hours per week. I would love to be able to afford even 1 visit to the doctors office a year...

I suggest you all actually *read* Obama's health plan. It's well thought out and will cost less than McCain's would have. I don't believe many of you even read the summary above. Obama's health plan is not socialized health care, nothing like it.

As far as socialism goes, I suggest you all go read your political and economic philosophy books before coming to a place like this and spouting your misinformed opinions.

it will take at least 20-30 years before a nationalized health care system collapses. That is the time it takes for 1) the pharmaceutical companies to stop making new drugs because all drugs have price controls. 2) the best and the brightest stop going into the medical profession because of wage controls.

There are a few reasons why health care is so expensive
1) insurance companies medicare only pay a fraction (say 30%) of the "list price". If the doctor wants to make 1000, over time he will raise the list price to $3000. The hospitals cannot charge you the same amount because medicare/insurance require them to give a discount over a "list rate".

2) The threat of liability adds so much cost.
3) about 1/4 patients already gets free care.

Today health care is rationed by your ability to pay. I dont see that as morally better or worse than being rationed by some third party who uses whatever judgements they want to give/deny care. I personally would rather everyone take care of themselves than some low paid govt worker determining whether I can get care or not. Life is not fair, but we all die in the end. If I cant afford the best new cancer treatment then that is too bad, Ill die. I don't think I should be able to go to my neighbors house to take the money to pay for it.

Do we all have the right to go to the top surgeon at mayo clinic?
Do we all have the right to get the newest most expensive cancer treatment?
Why cant we settle for the cancer treatment that is 10 years old and less expensive?

Obama is not change that is good, obama is change in abortion laws. Partial birth abortion is the most disgusting thing i have ever seen. This is America we need competition to spark movement here not obamas plan. Do you realize that his insurance plan will cost 100 billion dollars more than McCains and insure 21.1 million less people in ten years? We dont need more government for these kinds of things. To fund a 1.7 trillion doallar healthplan we will need to tax maore than just the rich 10%. Thats a great deal of money it will be passed down to us, it has to be. Theres no other way. He wont charge corporations, they pay for his ridiculously overspent campaign. Don't be stupid emough to believe that change can happen just cause he says it will. Also there will be waiting periods of over two months for physicals, things like catscans wont be covered. Its a giant HMO, its garbage, on the otherhand competition always brings things to reasonable prices look at computers for goodness sakes. But we have to get real people we cant take care of our elderly, so we certainly cant just assume that we have enough to take care of everyone all of the sudden unless your ready to pay for it through the nose.

Fact of the matter is that we will have a pro-abortionist president who has no experience with international policy and a not very well thought out healthcare plan.

Heres a thought for a new law. how about you have to pay taxes to vote. I'm tired of hearing sally in section 8 with no job acting like she knows whats going on cause she talks to iesha who also doesnt have a job just welfare and seven kids. These people dont deserve to vote! They dont add to the economy, so they shouldnt have a say as to who runs our government. I think we can set it up so when you pay those taxes, or recieve your reimbursment checks that you are automatically registered to vote. This should be the new voter registration. You should have to use your tax id number or social security number to vote and all they would have to do is check ID's. Everyone else is not eligible. end of story. Not that welfare cases and people without jobs are trash or less than working people. even though they are, its because if your not contributing you should have no say as to what my tax money goes to. If you mooch sit in the corner and let us grown folks handle our money.

also this chart is terribly biased for abama this is so obvious its ridiculous and its inaccurate.

A lot of people fail to realize that not everyone in this country is in a situation to be granted health insurance. For those people, like myself, who have a pre-existing condition (Type I Diabetes in my case) being able to get coverage would be a blessing in itself. There are so many people who have medical debt because they are unable to get coverage. People are dying because they are denied health coverage. It is sickening to hear others say people need to keep themselves healthy and stop looking for hand outs. I work just as hard as any other American out here and the condition I have was not something I could control. They are diseases out there that can strike you at anytime, strike children at anytime, but when it happens to you, just watch how fast your insurance company drops you and then will be the one looking for health coverage then. McCain has not mention anything about how this plan will cover those with pre-existing conditions; Obama gives me hope in making his plan accessible to ME- the one needs coverage, the one that is denied coverage. I want coverage. I do not want to have to pay $2000 - 10,000 everytime I have to go to the hospital. The coverage doesn't have to be free either as long as I don't to put out the amout of money that I do. This issue may seem insignificant to you "healthy" people, but remember you have a long life to live and things can change in a heartbeat. You are NOT guarenteed a clean bill of health for the rest of your life.

I think that Obama's plan is alot better. The Obama plan will allow for universal health care-which some may consider ‘socialist’ but in reality will work when given time. The idea of universal health care creates immense competition among companies. I think that the patient needs to become a consumer. Supply and demand is an economical reality, and if the consumer (and by consumer I mean patient) demands cheaper health care, then they shall receive.
