Since 1940, Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico has been around. They are owned by Health Care Service Corporation and function as the financial intermediary for Contract Health Services, provided through Indian Health Service and offer 39 Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans (as of 2009).

Their BlueCard® Program allows members to have access to health care services when they travel by accessing Blue Cross and Blue Shield providers local to where they are visiting.

For members who will be traveling for at least 90 days, the Away From Home Care® Program offers nationwide access to Blue Cross and Blue Shield providers.
