Chartered in 1933, Blue Cross and
Blue Shield of Minnesota (BCBSMN) became Minnesota’s
first health plan. A nonprofit organization, Blue Cross and
Blue Shield of Minnesota is the largest health plan in Minnesota,
providing health insurance policies to almost three million people (as of 2009).
They also serve as a health care safety net for more than 125,000
Minnesotans who are enrolled in government-sponsored programs,
184,000 members through its Medicare supplement programs.
