- Providers may deny coverage because of a health problem.
- If unable to secure coverage because of a health problem, Arkansas Comprehensive Health Insurance Pool insurance may be
available.

Self-Employed Health Insurance in Arkansas
- For the self-employed, group insurance is not available.
- Affiliation with a trade association for the purpose of acquiring group health coverage has rules which should be checked
with the Arkansas Department of Insurance.
Group Health Insurance in Arkansas (including Small
Business)
- Coverage cannot be denied applicants who
qualify, nor can they be expected to pay more or be cancelled
because of a health condition.
- An employer may require a wait period before offering
group insurance.
- If there is a pre-existing condition, applicants may meet
with an exclusion period of up to 12 months.
- The provider may review medical records for the 6 months
prior to coverage.
- If coverage was maintained with no lapse longer than 63
days, applicant is eligible for creditable coverage toward any
exclusion period.
Small Business Health Insurance in Arkansas
- A small business cannot be turned down or
be cancelled due to illness of an employee.
- However, due to a sick person in the group of up to 25,
premiums may rise to a certain limit.
- There is continuation coverage for certain employees.
